Engineering Manager
Safa Orhan

Thirteen years of building software across startups, agencies, and enterprise teams, with Android at the core and everything else explored along the way. I consistently take ownership beyond the code: design systems, product decisions, team culture. Looking for the right remote role, somewhere between engineering, management, and product.

Experience
2021 – 2026Remote
Engineering Manager
RTIC Outdoors
Led a distributed team of engineers building RTIC's enterprise warehouse platform, owning the full product cycle from roadmap to code review. Designed the UI and built the in-house Figma design system that served the entire product. Also designed and built an in-house Android MDM solution from scratch, replacing the existing commercial tool. Introduced agile workflows, held regular 1:1s, and maintained a healthy and productive team culture across time zones.
2018 – 2020Berlin, DE
Android Engineer
Wayfair
Contributed to Wayfair's consumer app with 10 million+ downloads, working alongside 40+ Android engineers across two continents. Also helped build two internal Android apps: a tablet companion for category managers at trade fairs, and a warehouse operations tool. Led an open-source Android UI library and delivered development workshops for internal engineers and the broader community.
2013 – 2018Istanbul
Android Engineer
Freelance & Startups
Shipped Android apps across startups, tech agencies, and freelance engagements throughout university, graduating with years of production experience already behind me. Co-founded a coworking and makerspace near Boğaziçi, ran a small mobile development studio, and picked up team leadership early.
Projects
2025 – 2026
Pocket Manager — Custom MDM
RTIC Outdoors
Pocket Manager is a custom MDM built to replace a commercial tool that had become a liability. The design covered everything: API contracts, provisioning flows, and an admin dashboard built alongside a backend engineer, backed by a WorkManager-based task system for reliable background execution across dozens of Zebra terminals. The CTO adopted it outright, cancelling existing licenses and saving thousands of dollars per year.
2021 – 2026
Pocket — Warehouse Operations App
RTIC Outdoors
Pocket is an Android warehouse app on Zebra hand terminals, built for a non-traditional user space: extreme conditions where the UI extends to external displays, stream-deck hardware, and thermal printers. The role began as sole developer and grew into leading a team, conducting user research on the floor, and crafting a purpose-built design system for the environment. Built following industry best practices: modular Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, highly testable, and CI/CD ready.
